(WTXL/USNO) -- Tropical Cyclone Pam is currently spinning east of Australia in the southern Pacific Ocean. As of 9am Tuesday, winds are sustained at 75 mph, which makes it the equivalent of a category one hurricane.

The storm is forecast to intensify significantly, possibly becoming a strong high-end category 4 cyclone. The storm is not forecast to make landfall along any of the islands in the area, however the center of the storm will make close approaches to New Caledonia and Fiji.

Pam will continue to push to the south-southeast and weaken as it nears New Zealand several days from now.
