TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a tropical wave near Hispaniola that has the potential to become a tropical cyclone later this week.

The system is not expected to become organized within the next couple of days. Conditions will become more favorable for organized activity in the Gulf of Mexico as this system moves west.

At this time, the system is not expected to have a significant impact on the Big Bend or the Florida Panhandle. However, we will see some showers and storms along the coast as we go into Tuesday and Wednesday as a result of this Tropical Wave.

Areas along the Louisiana and Texas Coast will need to pay close attention to this system.

The National Hurricane Center is giving a twenty percent chance for tropical development in the Gulf of Mexico within the next five days.
