MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) -- Tropical Storm Gaston has shown healthy formation and development, and is closer to becoming the latest hurricane in the Atlantic Ocean tropical cyclone season.
The storm has peak winds of 65 mph and is located over 700 miles from the Cape Verde Islands.
Gaston is moving west-northwest at 17 mph, with lowest air pressure reading of 29.59".
Most forecast indicators keep the system well away from the U.S. east coast and over the open ocean while it strengthens into a Category 1 hurricane by Wednesday evening. A mild amount of upper-level wind shear may interrupt its intensification efforts, but not enough to prevent Gaston from further increasing in strength in the extended outlook.
