HOUSTON (KTRK/CNN) - A truck driver died after his 18-wheeler slammed into a Texas restaurant Thursday morning

Authorities said the big rig veered across a median on the Grand Parkway and onto a feeder road, reportedly hitting two other vehicles in the process.

The semi then crashed into the restaurant.

Emergency responders said the driver was found slumped over the wheel.

They suspect the cause of the crash could be medical in nature.

Three other people suffered minor injuries, but according to authorities, the incident could have been much worse.

"If you look inside that restaurant, the tables and the chairs that are completely crushed and destroyed," said Ft. Bend County Sheriff Troy E. Nehls. "If that restaurant would have been open, we would have had many, many, many serious injuries and possibly fatalities today."

The Ft. Bend County Sheriff's Office said the 18-wheeler was carrying liquid nitrogen, but it never presented a hazmat threat.
