(RNN) – An adviser to the United Arab Emirates is reportedly cooperating with special counsel Robert Mueller.

George Nader, a Lebanese-American businessman and adviser to the Emirates, has agreed to provide information to Mueller’s investigation into possible collusion between campaign officials and the Russian government to sway the 2016 presidential election, according to reports by The New York Times and CNN.

Nader’s cooperation is part of an apparent expansion of Mueller’s investigation. The special counsel now appears to be examining the possible influence of money from the Emirates on the Trump administration.

Sources said Nader is telling Mueller about meetings he attended between Emirati officials and Trump associates during the presidential transition.

Nader was present at a meeting between Emirati officials and Trump associates in New York in December 2016 and in the Seychelles islands in January 2017.

Nader has reportedly provided information to the grand jury.

Mueller also has questioned witnesses on the possibility that Nader funneled money from the Emirates to the Trump campaign, The Times reported.

It’s illegal for Americans to knowingly accept foreign money to fund political campaigns.
