SALT LAKE CITY, UT (KSTU/CNN) - In Utah, police officers and firefighters stepped in as dates for the girls at the South Salt Lake Daddy Daughter Dance whose fathers couldn't make it.

They danced with girls whose fathers could not make it or are not around.

"When I came walking in here, I saw these little girls and it reminded me of when I took my little girls," said Sgt. Darren Carr.

With two daughters of his own, Carr knows a father's shoes can be difficult to fill.

"I have a couple handsome guys here who would be more than happy to dance with you," Carr told the girls.

The princesses had a special knight in shining armor. Several police officers and firefighters stepped onto the dance floor.

"We didn't want anyone feeling left out," Carr explained. "Sometimes we see these kids in less than desirable circumstances unfortunately so it's nice to have a better, more fun interaction.

The girls also got quite a laugh watching their dads, firefighters and officers in a hula hooping contest.

"It was so great to see the little kids just having a good time dancing," Carr said.
