AUBURN, CA (KOVR/CNN) – A California coyote, who got its head stuck inside a plastic jar, is free for the first time in more than a week.

Volunteers rescued her on Monday after days of trying to track her down.

Video taken last week shows the coyote in its uncomfortable predicament, wandering through the El Dorado County hills.

The unusual sight led to a growing group of volunteers searching to save her.

“It was just amazing. Everybody was there, and everybody was ready and responded correctly,” Luis Escobar said. “When I grabbed it and I held it, it felt really bony like a cat. It was definitely hungry and scared, and probably in shock.”

Rescue crews later clipped the container off.

“I’m sure she’s happy to be done with her bonnet,” Gold Country Animal Rescue Board President Sallysue Stein said.

The jumbo-sized jar may have had some sort of tempting snack inside.

Now freed from the container that kept her from eating, the coyote can recuperate before being returned to the wild.

For the volunteers who tracked her down to rescue her, it was worth the effort.

“You’re seeing an animal suffering, and if you can help it, why not,” Escobar said.
