(RNN) - President Donald Trump and his family have found a new - and quite unlikely - supporter in "Mean Girls" star Lindsay Lohan.
The actress defended President Trump and his family in a pair of tweets on Monday.
She was responding to a conservative who was sharing Trump’s comments about wanting to help Charlie Gard, a critically ill British baby whose doctors want to take him off life support.
“This is our president,” she tweeted. “Stop bullying him and start trusting him. Thank you personally for supporting #TheUSA.”
Like just about everything else these days, Lohan's interjection led to a string of politically charged tweets for and against the president.
She went on to describe members of the president’s family as “kind people."
“As an American, why speak poorly of anyone?” she added.
She later took that tweet down.
Earlier this year, Lohan appeared with controversial Turkish president Recep Erdogan and his wife, Ermine, after she volunteered in Turkey in 2016 to help refugees fleeing Syria. She met the Turkish strongman with Bana Al-Abed, the young girl whose viral tweets about her life under siege in Aleppo brought worldwide attention. Bana now lives with her family in Turkey.
Lohan's latest appearance on social media came a few days after she announced a new pay-for-play blog in which she’ll tell fans her secrets and offer advice.
THIS IS our president. Stop #bullying him & start trusting him. Thank you personally for supporting #THEUSA
