(CNN) - A Politico article by former interim Democratic National Committee chair Donna Brazile claims the Clinton campaign launched a so-called "secret takeover of the DNC."

The article is an excerpt from Brazile's not-yet-released book titled: "Hacks: The inside story of the break-ins and breakdowns that put Donald Trump in the White House.”

In it, Brazile says she promised Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders she would get to the bottom of whether Hillary Clinton's team had rigged the nomination process. Brazile says she found a document signed by DNC officials in 2015 giving Clinton control of the party's finances, strategy and all money raised.

It was signed roughly a year before Clinton actually won the nomination.

She writes: "The funding arrangement with Clinton's campaign and the victory fund agreement was not illegal, but it sure looked unethical.”  She says it happened because the DNC was in a financial crisis, with out-of-control spending under then-chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz.

She adds while it was not a criminal act, she saw it as compromising the party's integrity.

A note, Brazile resigned as a CNN contributor after being accused of unethical behavior by leaking questions to Clinton ahead of debates and town halls during the campaign. That information came from emails leaked by Wikileaks during the campaign.

Brazile's book releases on Nov. 7.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-MA, said on Thursday that she believes that the DNC was "rigged" in favor of Clinton during the 2016 primary.

In response to a question from CNN’s Jake Tapper on Thursday asking if she believed the primary contest was rigged, Warren responded, “yes.”
