EAGLE RIVER, AK (KTUU/CNN) - Three young people are in the hospital after a brown bear mauling.

A mother bear reportedly attacked a group of four kids hiking in the area. Three of them were hurt.

Emergency crews arrived at the campground Wednesday morning, but the juveniles had reportedly scattered around the area after the attack.

It took 30 minutes for police and medical teams to locate all of them.

Teams from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game searched for the brown bear involved by following a slight blood trail the bear left behind.

They eventually decided the bear was no longer a threat and called off the search.

"I don't know that there's necessarily more bears than normal. It just happens to be a lot of things happening right now," said Ken Marsh of the Alaska Department Of Fish And Game.

Police say three of the four individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials are hoping the bear will not return to the area.
