TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 13, 2018) – Pensacola State College came to town on Tuesday and swept a softball doubleheader from Tallahassee Community College in the Panhandle Conference opener for both teams.

Pensacola State won the opener, 11-6, scoring five runs in its final at-bat to steal the victory, then cruised to a 12-1 win in the nightcap.

In the opener, Tallahassee rallied from a four-run deficit only to see the Pirates score five runs in the seventh on a pair of home runs in the 11-6 loss.

The Eagles scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game. With two runs already in, D’kota Cassady doubled down the left field, scoring Samantha Malik and Monica Marquez. Cassady eventually reached third but was stranded to keep the score tied at 6-all.

Pensacola State took the lead on one swing in the seventh. Alexis Guzman’s three-run homer off Shaquoya Williams (3-4), her second of the game, put the Pirates in front to stay. Natalie Sorenson added a two-run shot later in the inning.

Offensively, Jayce Thomas led the Eagles by going 2-for-4 and scoring twice. Cassady and Olivia Russell drove in two runs each.

In game two, Pensacola State collected 13 hits en route to the 12-1, five-inning victory.

The Pirates scored in each inning, including three in the second and five more in the third, that put them in front, 9-1.
