TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – Morgan Klaevemann signed her National Letter of Intent on November 13 to play softball for Florida State starting in the 2014-15 academic year. The Refugio, Texas, native was highly recruited and desires to contribute for the Garnet and Gold right away.
“Morgan will look to replace the speed we are losing this season with Senas and Brown, and could be penciled into the leadoff spot,” said head coach Lonni Alameda. “She’ll make an immediate impact. She comes in very mature.”
Named the District 31-AA Newcomer of the Year and Refugio High School MVP as a freshman, Klaevemann has steadily built upon that foundation. As a sophomore, she garnered District MVP, as well as All-South Texas and All-Area team honors.
Klaevemann’s 2013 junior season was extremely impressive. Going into the season, she was named to the Caller Times South Texas Preseason All-Star Team. In her 28 games for the Refugio Bobcats, she batted .500 with a .667 average with runners in scoring position and a .685 slugging percentage. Once on base, Klaevemann was an excellent runner, swiping 32 bases without being picked off or caught stealing. She ended with seven doubles, five triples, 18 RBI and 42 runs scored.
Due to her success, the postseason accolades came pouring in. She was named the District’s Offensive Player of the Year as well as to the Caller Times All-South Texas team, the Victoria Advocate All-Area team and multiple All-State teams.
“Morgan is one of the most electric slappers I have seen in a long time,” said assistant coach Craig Snider. “Her speed will be something FSU softball fans will marvel at for the next four years.”
Klaevemann also excelled as an outfielder for the Texas Bombers Gold travel team. The Bombers were founded in 2001 and have become a national powerhouse that consistently produces top talent. She was also selected to play in the Under Armour All-American Game at the Independence Tournament in Boulder, Colo.
“She comes from a small town in Texas and has a great family,” added Alameda. “Morgan has also played for a great Bombers organization that has a lot of the same values and characteristics as our program. We feel very strongly that the transition is going to be quite easy for her. We look forward to her making a big impact for four years.”
Klaevemann also shines in other sports, having qualified in several events at the Region IV track meet each year, being named second team All-District in basketball the past two seasons and has also won her school’s powerlifting award. Academically, she has been on RHS’s Distinguished Honor Roll and named Academic All-District in softball and basketball all three years of high school.
Klaevemann states that her goal at Florida State is to be an impact player that helps the Seminoles make it back to the Women’s College World Series. She desires to pursue a degree toward becoming a pharmacist.
Klaevemann credits her mom with being the biggest influence on her college career. “She’s always been there for me, encouraging me and has been my biggest supporter. She never gave up on me and never let me give up on myself,” said Klaevemann.
