CARY, N.C. – Florida State’s Jamia Fields was honored as the Most Outstanding Player on Offense following the conclusion of the 2013 Women’s College Cup. Fields was also named to the College Cup All-Tournament Team and was joined by teammates Kristin Grubka and Kelsey Wys.
Fields was the lone player at this year’s College Cup to score more than one goal as the junior midfielder scored two in FSU’s 3-2 victory over Virginia Tech in the semifinals. It was the first multi-goal game of her career and it couldn’t have come at a better time in helping Florida State advance to the national championship game for the second time in school history.
The Alta, Loma, Calif., native gave the Noles their first lead of the match in the 57th minute breaking a 1-1 tie with her first goal of the match. She then provided the game-winning heroics scoring the goal of the match in the 83rd minute to break a 2-2 tie. Fields blasted a shot from the right side of the pitch from about 22 yards out that caromed off the far post, then off the back of Virginia Tech goalkeeper Dayle Colpitts and into the net to give the Seminoles a 3-2 advantage.
The goal by Fields in the 83rd minute marked the 17th time this year that Florida State has scored a goal after the 80th minute including the 14th time that a goal has either tied the match or resulted in a game-winner.
Sunday’s championship final against UCLA was not the ending Florida State was hoping for but it was a season that the Seminoles should hold their heads high and feel proud of the accomplishments they achieved in what was one of the most successful seasons in school history. The Seminoles finished 2013 with a school record 23 wins, advanced to their second national championship game and claimed their second ACC title in the last three years.
