Noles baseball: McGee named ACC Player of the Week

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State’s Stephen McGee was named ACC Player of the Week after collecting a pair of game-winning hits in leading the Seminoles to a series sweep over No. 30 UCF this past weekend.

 

The Port St. Lucie, Fla., junior provided the game-winning hit in game one on Friday, breaking a 2-2 tie with a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth to key a two-run inning and a 4-2 victory.

 

McGee capped off the weekend recording his first career walk-off hit as he drilled an RBI single to straight away center with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to break a 4-4 tie. He began the series finale on Sunday with a ground rule double in the bottom of the first and scored a batter later. McGee also keyed a four-run fifth inning in game two of the series connecting on a one-out double as he was the first of seven straight batters to reach in the inning. 

 

In addition to hitting .444 for the series, McGee caught all 27 innings against the Knights and converted on all 34 fielding opportunities. He was also a perfect 2-for-2 in throwing out would be base stealers.

 

McGee and the Seminoles are back in action this week as they travel to face Stetson for two games beginning Tuesday, May 7 at 6:30 p.m.
