TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — The Early signing period was last week, and Godby defensive back De'Shawn Rucker kept things a secret as to where he was going. The big reveal came Tuesday night on his 18th birthday.

Rucker is Tenneessee bound, as he chose to play for the Volunteers over the likes of Alabama, Clemson, and Florida.

He's been committed to the Vols since the spring. Rucker said the coaching staff believed in him, and he felt wanted there. He said to share the moment with those closest to him Tuesday was special.

"This is probably one of the most memorable days of my life honestly," he said. "To get all my family out here, even the family on Zoom, to have my friends right there with me, it means a lot to me that they're here. I'm honestly just ready to get to work with Coach [Derrick] Ansley and Coach [Jeremy] Pruitt. They're great at what they do so I'm ready for them to develop me."

Rucker said he plans to study Kinesiology in college.
