TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — The Maclay High School boys soccer team is ranked number one in the state of Florida regardless of classification and number five in the nation.

With a top-ranked team comes top-ranked talent, and one of those talented athletes signed a college scholarship Thursday.

Drew Daunt has played varsity soccer for the Marauders the last four seasons, leading them to two state title games, scoring 21 goals and adding 13 assists throughout his career.

Belmont Abbey will get Daunt at the next level. COVID made the recruiting process challenging, but he knows he found the right fit.

"I wanted to go to a small school, a pretty good soccer program and they have both of those aspects," he said Thursday. "It also seemed like a community when I went there and I was drawn to that. It's great seeing everyone come and support me. It just shows everyone cares about me and cares about my career. I'm really excited for these next steps forward. I want to succeed at the next level and I'm going to work really hard to do so."

Daunt said he wants to major in finance or sports management.
