TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — The Lincoln Trojans have a new head coach heading into the 2020 season.

2008 Lincoln grad BJ Daniels took over the reigns of the program last month and the team couldn't be more excited.

"It's really eye opening to really be able to talk to a young person to say, 'these same hallways, the same locker, the same locker room, the same workouts, everything you're doing, I've done,'" said Daniels.

Everything the Trojans are doing and sometimes the coaches too.

"He actually works out with us," said Rohan Goulbourne, a junior at Lincoln. "It pushes us to go harder everyday."

"He's energetic, he's always motivating," said Dillan Wild, a senior at Lincoln. "He'll get onto you if you're not working hard enough!"

Hard work is what the Trojans are all about right now, even if things aren't exactly normal.

"Using our imagination is the biggest thing, having the opportunity to really talk and teach actually helps us," Daniels said. "I know the season is coming fast and approaching. Right now we're just trying to figure out if they start opening things up a little more, what it is we can and cannot do."

What they're doing and what they're aiming for is being led by a guy who's been there.

"He understands what it takes to get there," said Goulbourne. "The steps he took, he can teach us so we know how to do it."

"They love hearing my old war stories, walking the hallways and different things like that," Daniels said. "We have everybody in the correct spots and moving parts to make sure we're successful and give all the information we can to the kids."

Information they're taking in one workout at a time.

If everything stays on time, Lincoln will open the regular season against Godby on August 21.
