TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — The Leon Lion football team was set to start their season two weeks ago, then COVID-19 hit the program causing them to press pause.

The Lions are practicing with pads on for just the sixth time on Wednesday as they get ready for Friday's opener against Godby.

Head coach Garrett Jahn said the past few weeks have been difficult. They've essentially had to start over this week since they haven't been able to practice, but for this team, they're just ready to play.

"As a coach and looking at everything, it's essentially like a Kickoff Classic for us at this point," said Jahn. "You're trying to knock the rust off in two days, get a game plan in, and you're playing on Friday night. At this point, we'll keep it as simple as we can and get out there and play some football. I know the fans and the stakeholders of the program are really excited about it."

That match-up Friday night at Leon has a 7 p.m. kick.
