TALLAHASSEE — St. John Paul II, Leon and Wakulla volleyball all in action today as a trip to the final four on the line for each team.
We'll start with the most nail-biting game of the day, St. John Paul II hosting Christ Church Academy. Tied at two-sets a piece we went into a fifth and deciding set. The Panthers who for most of the set were fighting off elimination took home the win and clinched their spot in 2A state final four.
“I mean I’m crying I can’t believe it. I knew they could do it, we came into this game knowing we could win but to actually finish like that is just unreal," said St. John Paul II head volleyball coach Emily Serpico. "They fought every point, we had to fight off like four or five game points, and they never gave up, they stayed positive, they stayed fighting and I’m just so proud of them right now.”
The Panthers will play Geneva in the state semifinals next Saturday.
Leon High also in Elite Eight action today, and the Lions on a quest for a repeat state title. After sweeping Niceville in three sets Saturday, that goal stays alive as they'll host St. Petersburg next Saturday in the 6A State Semifinals.
Wakulla on the other hand, not as fortunate. The War Eagles fell in three sets to Ponte Vedra, the top ranked team in 5A, ending their season.
