TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - Florida A&M head football coach Willie Simmons dropped some statistics during his weekly Tuesday press conference.
"If you break it down by the amount of film you watch, by the amount of practices we have, by the amount of workouts we do, we work over 300 days a year for 11 opportunities," he said. "Any person with sense would tell you that's absolutely insane."
Florida A&M hasn't wasted any of those eleven opportunities. The Rattlers are 6-2 on the year, 5-0 in MEAC play, and with a win this weekend over Howard, will clinch at least a share of the MEAC title and punch their ticket to the Celebration Bowl.
The Rattlers have had an insane turnaround. - they notched just three wins a season ago. In fact, Saturday's win over Morgan State guaranteed them their first winning season since 2011.
Coach Simmons insists though that this team is still focused on winning the day. They're not looking past Howard. Why? Simply because this is opportunity number nine.
"Play as hard as you can. Practice as hard as you can to be ready for Saturday. Then once the game is over, we'll let the chips fall where they may," he said. "That's our mindset. That's how we keep from trying to see how big this game could possibly be. We really haven't even talked to the team about we win this one, this is what'll happen. We need to win this game because we're preparing to win a football game."
Saturday's game at Howard is set for a 1:00 kickoff.
