Tallahassee, Fl. (April 29th, 2018) – After dropping the first two games of the series to Alabama State, the Rattlers looked to avoid the sweep by taking game three on Sunday.
The Rattlers drew first blood in this one, as Bret Maxwell drove in Dallas Oliverwith a single to center, giving the Rattlers an early 1-0 lead after an inning of play.
They extended their lead to 2-0 in the second when Jordan Curtis scored from third on a wild pitch.
Alabama State got on the board in the sixth as Cage Cox drew a bases loaded two out walk to score Yamil Pagan. Hunter Allen also drew a bases loaded walk, allowing Ray Hernandez to score and tie the game at two going to the bottom of the sixth.
FAMU regained the lead in the bottom of the seventh. Jacky Miles hit a two out single up the middle to score Kodi Russ and Jordan Curtis, giving the Rattlers a 4-2 lead going into the eighth.
The Rattlers added an insurance run in the eighth inning when Ty Russ scored from third base on a wild pitch, making it a 5-2 game after eight innings of play.
Florida A&M maintained their three run lead in the ninth, winning by a final score of 5-2. Chandellor Benton earned his fourth win of the season (4-1), throwing 2.1 scoreless innings of relief. Starting pitcher Dallas Oliver allowed two runs through 5.2 innings of work and Dylan Carlson tossed a scoreless ninth to earn his fifth save of the season.
Alexander Castro was handed the loss, allowing two runs (none earned) in 4 innings of relief. Starting pitcher Gage Dollar threw 3 innings, allowing two earned runs. Terrell McCall and Chase Laney combined to throw the eighth inning.
The win improves the FAMU record to 20-24 on the season. The Rattlers will look to win back to back games on Wednesday as they will host the Ospreys of North Florida at 5:00 PM.
