VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) — The Valdosta State men's basketball team begins their season this weekend with a road trip to West Georgia, a season that should be all about redemption, right?

The Blazers were 26-4 and set to start the NCAA tournament when COVID came knocking, and we know the ending to that story.

The hype from last year's program carried over to this year, as Valdosta State picked to finish first in the East of the Gulf South Conference, and two players were picked to the Preseason All GSC team.

So, back to the question. Is this season all about redemption? This is a new year, as last season is in the past.

"Sure, we have a good team, and we had a chance to make a run, but nothing is guaranteed, and nothing is given," said head coach Mike Helfer. "As everybody got things canceled, and the NCAA Tournament was canceled, I think everybody in general just kind of accepted it and turned the page to this year. New team, new year, same goals."

"Man, everybody is pretty excited, and we're just ready to go out there and compete," added senior Imoras Agee. "We've been practicing and doing some pretty hard conditioning. We're just ready to go out and play against someone other than each other."

The Blazers travel to West Georgia Saturday. Tip-off is at 2:00 p.m.
