VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) — Last year ended a little earlier than the Lady Blazers of Valdosta State would have liked. Well, guess what? Saturday, a brand new season tips off.
The ladies are picked to finish fourth in the east of the Gulf South Conference.
Leading the way for Valdosta State is Senior Kayla Bonilla, who was named to the Preseason all GSC team. Saturday is a big test off the bat, as West Georgia comes to The Complex, and the team is excited to open with a rivalry.
"Opening our first home game with a rival, so I feel like the fans are going to be here, it's going to be packed out, and we're ready to go to war," said Bonilla.
"I like starting off hard, the top three teams in our side of the conference and our bracket, we play those the first three games," said head coach Deandra Schirmer. "We'll see right away what we're made of. We'll see right away where we'll fall when it comes to our division."
Tip-off against the Wolves is set for Saturday at 2:00. All fans in attendance are expected to wear a mask.
