CARROLLTON, Ga. — The top-ranked Valdosta State football team won their second-straight outright Gulf South Conference championship Saturday night in their 42-14 win over West Georgia. The victory is also the Blazers' fourth undefeated regular season in program history.
The win marked the team's 25th straight. VSU is in the top 15 all-time in NCAA Division II for consecutive victories, as Northwest Missouri State (1999-00), North Dakota State (1964-66) and Wesleyan (Conn./1945-48) each won 24 games consecutively.
The Blazers now lead the all-time series with the Wolves 26-13 and won last season 47-31 to claim the outright GSC title in Valdosta.
The 2019 NCAA Division II Postseason Football Selection Show is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 17 at 5 p.m., and will be streamed live on NCAA.com. The defending national champion Blazers are looking for their 17th trip to the NCAA postseason in program history. VSU has won 26 games in the NCAA Playoffs, which is good for fifth all-time in NCAA Division II history and third among current NCAA Division II members (Northwest Missouri State with 48 and Grand Valley State with 35).
