Eagles soar past Jets in season opener

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (TCCeagles.com) — NJCAA No. 3/Region 8 No. 1 Tallahassee Community College raced to a 50-28 halftime lead en route to an 84-68 win at South Georgia Technical College in Wednesday’s 2021 season opener for both teams.

The Eagles have won seven straight season openers and are 1-0 for the 25th time in the last 26 years.

Tallahassee rode a balanced scoring attack to take down the Jets on Wednesday. Eleven different players broke into the scoring column, including three in double-figures led by El Ellis’ 16 points.

Jeremiah Kendall added 15 points and Etan Collins, 13.

The Eagles blistered the nets in the first half, connecting on 16-of-23 field goal attempts (69.6 percent) to all but put the game away after the first 20 minutes.

Tallahassee will play its home opener at 2 p.m. Saturday against Hillsborough Community College, who dropped a 76-71 decision to NJCAA No. 8 Florida SouthWestern State College on Wednesday.

General admission spectators are not permitted at on-campus events through at least the month of February, however, Saturday’s game will be live streamed on TCCeagles.com.
