AUBURN, Ala. (Seminoles.com) — The top-ranked Seminole Soccer team (7-0) took down their second top-10 opponent of the season with a 2-1 win over No. 10 Auburn (6-1).
With the win, Florida State has now won seven straight true road games, the longest streak in program history. The win also ended Auburn’s nation-leading 11 game winning streak. FSU’s two goals were the most Auburn has allowed in 15 games.
The Seminoles jumped on the Tigers quick on Sunday afternoon scoring the game’s first goal just 29 seconds into the game. Florida State’s fastest first goal came in 2007 when Mami Yamaguchi scored 15 seconds into the game against Notre Dame.
Emily Madril had the ball deep in FSU territory and sent a beautiful long ball to Jody Brown who sent a one-touch pass to Beata Olsson at the top of the box. With a perfect pass from Brown, Olsson did not have to slow down and hit a one-timer into the right side of the net for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.
The Garnet and Gold had another great look in the 22nd minute on a shot by Yujie Zhao. Lauren Flynn sent in a nice pass to Zhao in the middle of the box. Zhao had the Auburn keeper off of her line but struck a hard hit ball right into her midsection. 15 minutes later in the 37th minute, the Seminoles made it 2-0 with a goal by Maria Alagoa, the second of her career. Alagoa received a pass from Gabby Carle at the top of the box and with some fancy footwork, she found a seam in the Auburn defense and curled her shot into the right side.
Auburn cut the lead in half in the 55th minute with a goal from 22 yards out in the top right corner by Anna Haddock. Haddock received a pass from Grace Sklopan in the middle of the field and dribbled for a few steps before firing.
Auburn would have two more shots on goal in the second half by Cristina Roque would come up with her first two saves of the season to help secure the victory, giving FSU a 7-0 start to the season. This is the sixth time in program history that the Noles are unbeaten through the first seven games of the season.
Florida State is back home next week for one game against Boston College on Saturday, September 18 at 6 pm.
