SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The No. 3 Florida State soccer team (9-1-2) lost for the first time this season, 4-0, to No. 17 Notre Dame (11-2).
Notre Dame stuck early in the fifth minute with their first of four goals on the afternoon, this one was scored by Korbin Albert. About four minutes later the Irish took a 2-0 lead with a goal by Olivia Wingate, assisted by Leah Klenke.
The Seminoles went into the half trailing 2-0, while the Fighting Irish had a 5-4 shots-on-goal advantage. Mia Justus came away with two saves in the first half.
Notre Dame scored two more in the second half with goals in the 72nd and 84th minutes. Maddie Mercado scored ND’s third goal and Olivia Wingate converted her second goal of the game to put the Irish up 4-0.
Mia Justus did finish the game with a career-high five saves in her 13th career start. The Seminoles got off nine shots on the afternoon but could not find the back of the net as five of those nine shots were on goal.
The Seminoles had their best opportunity in the 13th minute when Clara Robbins was fouled in the box. Jenna Nighswonger stepped up to take the penalty kick and missed. The Seminoles then had two more shots on goal in the first half, one in the 15th minute and one in the 20th minute by Beata Olsson and Jody Brown.
Florida State would get three shots on goal in the second half, two by Onyi Echegini and one by Brown.
