TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The fifth-ranked Florida State Softball team (40-5) defeated Stetson (19-26) 4-1 Tuesday evening at home, marking their 40th win of the season.
Florida State had a quick start in the first inning, scoring two runs. Kaley Mudge scored first to give the Seminoles a 1-0 lead. Kalei Harding raised Florida State’s lead to 2-0 when she crossed home plate. Mudge led off with a single and got all the way to third after a ground out and a single by Harding. Mudge then scored on an error by Stetson and Harding capped off the inning by scoring on a Mack Leonard ground out to second base.
Stetson shrunk the lead to one in the top of the 5th off of a Lizzie Shubert solo home run to left field.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Seminoles extended their lead to 4-1. The Seminoles loaded the bases before Devyn Flaherty hit a ball to the shortstop that score Sydney Sherrill, keeping the bases loaded. After a pitching change, Michaela Edenfield hit a ground ball back to the pitcher to score Harding, giving FSU a 4-1 lead.
Emma Wilson started the game and pitched two innings with two strikeouts while not allowing a hit. In the third inning, Danielle Watson came in to pitch for Florida State and allowed just one run on one hit while striking out eight Stetson batters in four innings for her 12th win of the season.
Mack Leonard earned her first save of the season as she forced three outs in 11 pitches to finish off the game.
