TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) — Junior running back Cam Akers is the Atlantic Coast Conference Running Back of the Week after rushing for 193 yards, catching five passes for 55 yards and scoring three total touchdowns against ULM Saturday.
The Clinton, Mississippi, native set a school record with 36 carries against the Warhawks and had touchdown runs of nine and four yards. Akers now has back-to-back 100-yard rushing games and seven for his career. His 55 receiving yards were a career high, capped by a 44-yard catch and run touchdown that gave FSU the lead in the fourth quarter.
Combined, he had a career-high 248 all-purpose yards, nearly half of FSU’s 501 as an offense.
Akers leads the ACC and ranks in the top 10 nationally in all-purpose yards (188.0 per game), rushing touchdowns (3), rushing yards (309), rushing yards per game (154.5) and total touchdowns (4).
It is the fourth career player of the week honor for Akers. As a freshman, Akers was named Offensive Back and Rookie of the Week after a career-high 199 rushing yards and two touchdowns against Syracuse. Last season, Akers ran for 110 yards and a touchdown against No. 22 Boston College to earn Running Back of the Week honors.
Akers and the Seminoles (1-1) head to Charlottesville Saturday at 7:30 p.m. to face No. 25 Virginia. The game will air on the ACC Network.
