TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - Florida A&M's Marching 100 competes in this weekend's Honda Battle of the Bands in Atlanta. As one of the top bands there, they've already earned $20,000, and you can add another $25,000 to their total, as on Wednesday, the Marching 100 learned they were the winners of rapper Yung Thug's Hot Challenge.
The 100 submitted a video of a performance, it was voted the winner by fans, and on Wednesday, they celebrated.
"We're going to take this money and use it towards our band operations," said Director of Bands Dr. Shelby Chipman. "We will repair our uniforms, repair our instruments, band operations, we have recruitment things that are taking place."
"If you're a fan of HBCU bands, you have to be a fan of the Marching 100," said Matthew James, who's in his third year. "It went without say we were going to win. There's no competition when it comes to the 100."
This weekend's appearance in Atlanta will be the seventh for FAMU at the Honda Battle of the Bands.
