TALLAHASSEE, Fl. - WTXL — The defending MEAC conference baseball champions Florida A&M, saw their 2020 conference title defense cut short by Covid-19. To make up for lost time the Rattlers have put themselves in position to play one of the tougher pre-conference schedules in the country.
This team believes that playing top-tier talent early on in the season will only help them in the long run. And it’s their eagerness to get back on the field after an 11 months hiatus, that’ll give these guys the energy to square off against some of the best teams in college baseball.
“Once you become fearless, life becomes limitless and so the same thing has to apply to our season. Our schedule is probably about as tough as a preseason conference schedule than anybody plays," says FAMU head baseball coach Jamey Shouppe. "We play at Stetson, a very good baseball team, probably ranked in a lot of people’s top 30. The next weekend we’re at South Florida, the next weekend we’re only at the number one, University of Florida, playing a three game series there. Our pre conference schedule is challenging and we can't look at that and be scared, we have to go play. If we’re fearless, life becomes limitless.”
The Rattlers will begin their 2021 season on the road against Stetson University, February 19th.
