TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — After a long-awaited 11 months, the Florida A&M baseball team finally returns to action this Friday when the Rattlers hit the road for a weekend series against Stetson.
FAMU will enter this 2021 season with a good mix of returning players and fresh talent in their quest for a MEAC conference title and a super-regional win.
As you could imagine the long-awaited time off the field has this team more than anxious to hit the field Friday night. Head coach Jamey Shouppe says that should be as expected when you’re getting ready to go against the competition his guys will face in the first couple weeks of the season.
“Well, we hope we don’t ever have to motivate them to want to play, if you do that then you’re not recruiting very well if you got guys in your program like that. Our guys are ready to play, they’re excited about playing, they’re excited to be on the road at a beautiful venue like the one they have down at Stetson is always a good place to open up," Shouppe told ABC 27.
"The next weekend we’re at South Florida, the next weekend we’re at the University of Florida. So we have three weekends in a row with great venues to play at. If you can’t get excited for that you should be doing something else.”
