LEON COUNTY, Fla.(WTXL) — It's been almost six months since school was last in session.
Hundreds of buses will once again be part of your morning commute. That's why authorities are reminding drivers to slow down when approaching school zones.
ABC 27 spoke to the Leon County Director of Transportation and they wanted to share this message:
"Parents if you have the resources to drive your kids to school, do it."
For families that choose that option, leave the house 10 or 15 minutes earlier than you normally would. The Leon county Sheriff's office says to be prepared for long backups as you approach school zones.

"A lot of people this year probably aren't even using the buses . A lot of people will be taking their kids to school if they can. So that vehicle traffic around schools and I know for a fact schools have had to go back and look at their drop of plans to make sure they have the plans in place for an influx of car traffic," said Deputy Shade McMillian.
Also, don't forget to put that cell phone down in school zones.
Authorities say a first offense is $60. A second offense double to $60 plus three points on your license.
