TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — With the economic uncertainties from the coronavirus, we here at ABC 27 are shining a light on businesses that are doing their part to help out the community while keeping their business open.

Uptown Cafe says, "We're Open, Tallahassee!" and ready to serve you on this "Takeout Tuesday."

The phones at Nic Tedio's restaurant have been ringing, almost like a typical Tuesday at Uptown Cafe and Catering in Tallahassee.

"The staff is always so friendly, they always know your name, they always know your order," said Frank Rudd, Uptown Cafe regular for 15 years. "You do feel like one of those regulars that they do take care of ya, so its been great coming here for a lot of years."

Nic Tedio and his family opened the business in 1983, right across from Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare, a place that's helped keep business booming over the years.

Now, Uptown Cafe is returning the favor.

"At first, sending food over there," said Tedio. "Now, we are giving gift cards. We've sent about $400 worth of gift cards in $25 increments to hospital workers as a thank you for taking care of the community."

While their bread and butter has been breakfast and lunch, Uptown Cafe is now offering takeout dinners.

"I think its really great the way they are adapting," said Brian Knight, cafe regular for five years.

Giving back, while looking forward, to keep customers for decades to come.
