TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — With the economic uncertainties from the coronavirus, we here at ABC 27 are shining a light on businesses that are doing their part to help out the community while keeping their business open.
Skate World re-opened three weeks ago after being closed for almost three months.
During that time, they went through detailed cleaning, sanitizing, and even an anti-microbial treatment.
They've removed half of their seating, installed acrylic barriers, and have employees designated just to sanitizing all the frequently touched surfaces.
They are also taking temperatures at the door, mandating face masks, and have announcements every 12 minutes reminding people to keep a safe distance from others.
"We live here," said Nicole Bisping, the general manager at Skate World. "This is our community and we care deeply. We will take good care of our guests that come in, and help to keep them safe, and keep our family safe, and all of our team that works here safe."
As far as large crowds, Bisping says, that's not been an issue. They used to see between 200 to 400 people a day. Now, they're getting 10 or less.
"The great thing about skating is it does keep people moving at all times," Bisping said. "They're never meeting face to face out on skate floor, they're all moving in the same direction at all times. We've got floor guards who are out there saying keep apart, don't forget to have that six feet social distance."
Skate World has also changed its hours to allow cleaning between sessions.
Skate World also takes part in "Kids Skate Free," where parents can register to get one free skating pass per child who's 10 or under.
