VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - We've got our first look at the dash camera footage from an officer-involved shooting in Valdosta a few months back.
The incident happened in September when an officer was caught on cell phone video, asking a man with a gun to drop his weapon before shooting him.
We have to warn you, some of the video you are about to see may be disturbing.
As you can see, Officer Alyssa Shirley arrived on scene in time to see Jonathan Lozano Murillo on top of his child's mother.
Shirley quickly jumps in to help, and you then see Murillo walking directly towards the officer.
Shirley ran around the car and shot Murillo once.
It isn't until he lunged at her a second time that she shoots again.
Valdosta Police Chief Brian Childress says, the officer involved shooting is tragic, but the department has a responsibility to continue to do its job.
"We're going to continue to do what we've always done which is train, train, and teach our officers to communicate," said Childress.
Police say body-camera footage was not available because the officer's camera was knocked off when she was tackled to the ground.
