WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - With temperatures continuing to climb, heading to the pool is a common way to cool off and enjoy the weather.
In Wakulla County, there's an effort to build a pool for the community. It's been a goal for residents for several years now, and many are hoping the board of county commissioners sees strong support for it.
It's been this ongoing wish for residents, who say there simply isn't a place for evening recreation, especially during the summer.
We talked to one county commissioner Friday who says that was one of the main concerns he heard while campaigning.
The vision is to use an outdoor space at the community center in Crawfordville.
Commissioner Chuck Hess says it's certainly big enough for a pool, which, he says, was part of the original plan for the center. But it comes down to money, how big the pool would be, and how much it would cost to maintain.
Hess says it's tough to crunch the exact numbers, but it's the right time for residents to speak up.
The commissioner says the goal would be to have a lap pool with one end deep enough for diving classes and possibly a splash area for kids to play around in.
The community center is hosting a petition party next Saturday to gain more interest. Hess says the Sheriff's Office is helping out with the event.
