TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Relief is now available for veterans living in counties affected by Hurricane Michael.

The help is all part of a special Service Officer Assistance Program.

Veterans can apply for assistance and see benefits in a matter of a few months.

Currently, the wait time for a decision on an appeal is four years, so this program is a great value to those who need help now

All veterans need to qualify is their military I.D. card. The Vietnam Veterans of America moves vets to the top of the list to file a claim or appeal.

"These veterans have served their country and they're due a debt," said Marc McCabe Bureau Chief of The Vietnam Veterans of America.

McCabe also said he's waiting for clearance to bring the program to veterans in areas like Panama City and Mexico Beach who took a direct hit.

The Vietnam Veterans of America will be at The Hootch on Lake Ella next to the American Legion from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday.
