VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - A Valdosta police officer who was ambushed and shot three times by a gunman in July is now back to work.

Officer Randall Hancock patrolled the streets of Valdosta for the first time in 8 months yesterday.

At the last call he responded to in July 2016, he was shot 3 times.

Hancock says he is happy to be back on patrol helping the community.

"Being back with all my brothers and sisters and helping out my community, that's the best part about it. I honestly missed them," said Hancock. "They were there for me this whole time and I can't thank them enough for everything they did for me."

Hancock worked on light duty for a few months before hitting the roads yesterday.
