Valdosta City Council votes against teen curfew

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - The Valdosta City Council voted 5-2 against a  controversial ordinance that would have kept teenagers off the streets late at night.

City leaders and law enforcement has proposed the teen curfew ordinance.

Council members say the measure was offered simply to protect as many children as possible.

The ordinace would have required teens to be off the streets from midnight to 5 a.m. and would have held parents responsible for their children. The ordinance would have replaced the state law.

Mayor John Gale said he's disappointed but will continue to work on resolving the teen curfew issue.
