TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)--The long wait is over for residents in Lake Jackson.
They now have access to a brand new community center. It's 3,000 square feet.
The project has been in the works for several years.
The center includes a large meeting room with a 120-person seating arrangement and a kitchen.
Residents say the community center is much needed.
"There's so many things we want to do as a community but we had no place to really meet so we're very grateful that we're finally getting something," said resident Jo Ann Sewell.
The community center is in the Lake Jackson Town Center at Huntington.
That's right next to the library that opened last August.
Residents tell us they are also looking forward to sidewalks being added along Fred George Road.
That construction starts in March.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Leon County will host a grand opening for the newly constructed Lake Jackson Community Center on Thursday, February 21.
The opening begins 10 a.m. The new community center, which is roughly 3,000 square feet, is housed in the Lake Jackson Town Center at Huntington, at the intersection of North Monroe St. (US-27) and Fred George Road.
The new center is housed with two different meeting rooms – one large and another medium sized. The large meeting room has a seating capacity of about 85 seats and boasts a built-in projector with multi-media hookups to enable computer training. The medium meeting room can seat a maximum of about 38 people. It contains a large 52-inch television wired for multi-media purposes. Between the two rooms rests a warming kitchen complete with refrigerator, ice maker and microwave.
The Lake Jackson Community Center was constructed to support the needs of a growing community surrounding the North Monroe Street site. Initial improvements to the Lake Jackson Town Center at Huntington started with a renovation to the Lake Jackson Branch Library, which was completed in August 2012.
