LOS ALAMITOS, CA (CNN) - It's a hot dog of a race!
The 22nd Weiner Nationals at the Los Alamitos Race Course took place Saturday.
Don't let their short little legs fool you. Some weiner dogs pack serious speed.
Ninety dogs were contenders in the 50-yard final, but only one came out on top.
A dog once considered the runt of his litter, named Baby Bo, stole the show.
He won the title of the "Fastest Weiner in the West" with a near-record time of roughly 7 seconds.
Another dog, Lady Bug, stole some hearts. She was dropped off by a shelter three years ago and is recovering from partial paralysis.
It took her a bit longer to finish the race, but her owner says she's prouder than ever.
Lady Bug was surrendered to a shelter because she couldn't walk on New Year's Eve 2014.
"She's a lovely rescue, got her out the shelter and they ended up bringing her to where I work at California Animal Rehab," said Deanna O'Neil of California Animal Rehab, Lady Bug's owner.
"At the time when she came in, she couldn't walk, she couldn't move her hind legs," she said. "And when I looked at her, I thought, 'We're going to get to get her walking,' so we did intensive rehab, acupuncture, underwater treadmill, and over the course of a two-month period, she started to push up on her own and take steps on her own."
She added, "And then over a year, she started being able to walk on her own, and she still does rehab today. And she can walk, run, play, chase balls, and I thought, 'You know what, she can run in the Wiener Nationals.'"
Roughly 10,000 people showed up for the races. That's the biggest crowd officials said they've ever had.
