TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - On Saturday morning, two State Roads were renamed to honor Reverend Doctor Charles Kenzie Steele Senior.
State Roads 371 and 373 in Tallahassee were renamed as CK Steele Memorial Highway.
Reverend Doctor Charles Kenzie Steele Senior is celebrated for a host of things but is most well known for his leadership during the Tallahassee Bus Boycott in 1956.
Pastor Derek Steele is the youngest son of Reverend Steele and said its an honor for his father and family to be recognized.
"A lot of people called him the Martin Luther King of Tallahassee," said Pastor Derek Steele. "We have a real sense of gratitude and appreciation for what Tallahassee doing in remembering and memorializing our father."
One of the people who started the process in naming the roads after CK Steele said the memorial is more than just a dedication.
"It's all those who will come by and see his name on his highway and fix this highway and wonder who was Charles Kenzie Steele. What did he do that was so great to have a highway named after him and hopefully they will take the opportunity and go and research and learn more about what he did and hopefully it will have an impact on their lives," said Former state representative, Alan Williams.
Reverend Dr. Ck Steele Senior may be gone, but his legacy will live forever in Tallahassee.
