TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)--Tallahassee Police released details on what led one of their officers to shoot a suspect over the weekend.
Two officers are on administrative leave.
"Officer Ravenel and Braxton heard gunshots coming from the rear of the club, both officers went back to that area and found a male standing there with a gun in his hand," said Officer David Northway.
It's the third officer-involved shooting with the department in just a little over a month.
The latest shooting happened at Club Pierre on East Orange Avenue early Sunday morning.
Officers Derek Braxton and Jason Ravenel confronted 24-year old Jacoby Hart after they heard gunfire in the area.
Police say Hart was armed. They say officers gave him verbal commands to drop his weapon but he ran away.
During the chase, police shot Hart.
"Officers gave him verbal commands, and drew their weapons and told him to drop his gun, however, Mr. Hart did not do that," said Officer Northway. "He chose to run towards Monroe Street still holding the gun and one of the officers chose to use deadly force."
Hart is recovering at a hospital.
Police say he is believed to be the initial gunman in the shooting at the night club.
Hart is facing charges including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and discharging a firearm in public.
Police say no officers or bystanders were injured. TPD is working with the state attorney’s office. The case is expected to be heard by grand jury on June 23.
