TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Tallahassee Police Department is helping those assisting in areas west of Tallahassee following Hurricane Michael.

And TPD needs your help with Operation First Responder and Family Relief.

TPD heard that the first responders in the Panhandle are in need of basic hygiene and clothing items. So they are partnering with the Florida Police Chiefs Association for a donation drive.

They're collecting basic hygiene products as well as feminine hygiene products, underwear, towels, and washcloths.

"We decided to take action and help them out because they are going to be there indefinitely, we don't know how long. And they are working every single day. So we are helping those who are helping others," said TPD Officer Rachelle Denmark. "We were fortunate here in Tallahassee. So we're taking our fortune and we're gonna share it with the devastated communities and the first responders there."

TPD will have tables set up at Mission Barbecue on South Magnolia Drive, as well as the Lake Ella Publix, and the Target on West Tennessee.

The tables will be up until 8:00 p.m. Thursday and on Friday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
