TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Three weeks away from Christmas, and if you're shopping for toys, this year for the first time in 70 years there's no Toys R Us to shop at.

With the toy giant gone, local toy stores, like Toy Nation say they are seeing more shoppers come in their doors.

The owner of Toy Nation, Debbie Eyler says they had 30 percent more sales in November this year than November last year.

She's hoping for an even bigger crowd in December.

But while the store's been open for three years, Debbie says people still don't know about it, and she's constantly competing with online shopping although she offers something they can't.

"We offer personalized service," Eyler said. "So if you come in and you're stumped on what to get a 5-year-old boy, the first thing we're going to ask you is what does he like to do? What does he like to do, is he interested in anything else, does he like to play outside, and then we'll show you those products taylored for that boy or that girl's interests."

Debbie says if business doesn't pick up, they may have to close at the beginning of 2019.
