TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare is addressing policy concerns after a doctor claims he's been the target of racial discrimination and unfounded charges.
Dr. Joseph Webster, a gastroenterologist at TMH, said the hospital is requiring him to see patients in the emergency room.
This situation came to light earlier this week when about a dozen people held a rally outside TMH supporting Dr. Webster as a hearing about him was underway.
Webster said the formal complaints against him are that he wasn't seeing patients and not responding to consultations.
Dr. Andrew Firall, Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare, said, "When reviewing a position as part of an investigation, the hospital can take no action or go as far as removing the position from the staff. "
We spoke with Dr. Webster earlier and he said this is clearly an instance of racism and an attempt to tarnish his reputation.
"They want my license to be taken away. I have got thirty six years of an unblemished medical record," said Dr. Webster. "They have five cases they have contested. I've seen one hundred fifty thousand cases in thirty six years, but they have five cases that they want to take my license and privileges for."
Webster said if he were to lose the right to practice medicine, he would pursue any and all options, including legal action.
