TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Tallahassee International Airport (TLH) and American Airlines announced that a new daily flight between TLH and the nation's capitol, will begin next year.

TLH officials say American Airlines will fly its 76-seat CRJ-900 aircraft to and from Washington, D.C. once a day starting February 15, 2018.

The inaugural flight from Ronald Reagan Washington Airport (DCA) will arrive to TLH at 9:57 p.m. The first departing flight from TLH is scheduled for 7:10 a.m. on February 16, 2018.

“This new air service is a tremendous step forward for our airport and the regional customers we support around North Florida. The ability to move seamlessly between Florida’s capital and the nation’s capital is extremely advantageous for our community, as we work to create new and dynamic economic opportunities to Tallahassee,” Mayor Andrew Gillum said.

Commissioner Scott Maddox says Tallahassee residents and visitors want to fly directly to New York City, Ft. Lauderdale, and Washington D.C. more than any other destinations.

With the recent addition of American flying direct to D.C. and Silver Airline to Ft. Lauderdale, the missing pieces are falling into place.

"If you have to do business going from the state capital to the nations capital, you don't have that option today," said Maddox. "With this new flight, you'll be able to fly to Washington D.C., do your business and come back that night and sleep with your family here in Tallahassee."
