TALLAHASSEE Fla.-- The Consolidated Dispatch Agency has settled with the family of slain Florida State University Professor, Dan Markel.

The settlement was approved Monday morning by the CDA Board which includes the County Administrator, Sheriff Mike Wood and the City Manager, Rick Fernandez.

The agency will pay out $40 thousand to the estate of the Markel family.

The lawsuit stems from a wrongful death claim that led to an investigation into the response times on the day Markel was shot.

On July 18th of 2014 a caller reported the shooting to the CDA after finding Markel slumped over inside his car in his garage.

Later, an investigation found that it took crews nearly 20 minutes to respond to the scene, a response time that the Grand Jury says was too long.

The CDA took responsibility for the error and has since implemented new technology and procedures for dispatch calls.

The settlement money will be dispersed in the form of an annuity for both of Markel's young children.

The age that the two will get the funds hasn't been decided but the amount will be paid from the CDA's general liability insurance policy.
