TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Tallahassee railroad depot welcomed a passenger train for the first time in more than a decade on Friday
Amtrak operated a two-day inspection tour from New Orleans to Jacksonville, allowing passengers to see the opportunity of intercity passenger rail along the Gulf Coast. Passengers on the train included elected officials, industry representatives, and community leaders.
The train included a movie car, a dining car, as well as a fully staffed kitchen. Many on board set one of best turnouts they had seen so far, was in the capital city. Many area official agree its this kind of support and enthusiasm that will bring the train service back.
City leaders in Tallahassee say the area could see the Amtrak service back in the capital city as early as four years.
